Falafel

Falafel wedged between tooth and gum,

Salty autumn hair,

The ocean is always better than a sea salt spray.

The cormorants and ibis have arrived for their dinner reservation,

with high tide on Gumbaynggirr Land.

The chill of the Great Dividing Range beginning it’s tumble down the plateau,

the sun sets,

the fruitless seagulls accept their defeat,

with drooped wings and empty beaks.

Slaps of the volleyball amongst friends

Before a 3 year sabbatical.

Dinner with the jewellery-maker,

The sea eagle has just

been evicted.
