The Highland Poet
Poet for Hire, Northern NSW
Sierra’s love of the written word was encouraged from a young age, with her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother all having been poets. Writing since she physically could, Sierra was first published at the age of 14 in The Wild Goose Literary E-Journal. This same year, her stepfather encouraged her poetry, and gifted her a teal Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriter that she still uses and treasures to this day. Sierra has also had her work featured by FOUND Magazine, and in the upcoming Her Beauty and Her Terror: Australian Country Women's Anthology.
Having moved from the Blue Mountains to the Northern Tablelands in 2021, Sierra is continually in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds her, a thread of inspiration that can be felt throughout her works. Her love for her community saw the beginning of The Highland Poet, an on-the-spot writing service for those in need of a poem. With a prompt, some questions, and a few minutes, Sierra can create a personal poem for you or your loved one, typed and ready to take home.
Sierra can be found click-clacking at the Uralla High Country Markets, the Armidale Creative Streets Festival, or busking around town. For those whose poetry needs are more urgent, her Etsy shop is linked below.

The Black Gully Festival is on Saturday November 8th at the Black Gully Reserve (behind NERAM on the north and south sides of the creek). This annual festival celebrates creativity, and the warmer months after such a harsh winter. Sierra will be busking on a “Pay What You Feel” basis at the festival, spending the morning in NERAM, and the afternoon under a shaded tree in the gully itself.
